Ceci n’est pas un box
ABOUT THE CONCEPT
A conceptual wink to Magritte’s surrealism and to Belgium itself.
A case that looks like a fragile cardboard box, but isn’t. Real cardboard is laminated onto solid wood panels, sealed and finished by hand. A poetic reversal of fragility and protection.

Tell us more about yourself
“I’ve been working as a conceptual artist and painter for over twenty-five years. My work often questions what’s real and what’s assumed. How materials, context, and memory shape our interpretation. I enjoy shifting familiar things just enough to make people pause.”
About your art
“I’m drawn to surfaces that tell stories: paper, walls, wood. I treat them like living things: they age, absorb, reflect. My paintings and objects often carry traces of use, imperfection, or contradiction. Art, to me, is not about creating something new, but about revealing what’s already there, seen differently.”
Tell us about the concept
“I wanted to play with perception. A flightcase is made to protect, to resist, yet it often looks cold, anonymous. By covering it with real cardboard, I reversed that logic. Suddenly, what looks fragile becomes the strongest object in the room. It’s a visual paradox: a wink, but also a statement about what we value and why.”
